TCS vs M&P: Which Courier Fits Your Shipment?

TCS vs M&P: Which Courier Fits Your Shipment?

M&P, short for Muller & Phipps, is the courier most people meet through a corporate or pharmaceutical delivery rather than a walk-in counter. TCS has the larger retail network. The gap between them shows up in what you are sending, not in a league table.

Quick answer: TCS has the bigger retail footprint, over 1,000 Express Centres against M&P’s 750+ courier centres, and offers same-day delivery in 11 cities while M&P offers it in three. M&P’s advantages are narrower and sharper: a temperature-controlled cool chain service for goods that must stay cold, and an overnight box range built around fixed weights. For heavy freight TCS goes much further, accepting up to 999 kg on Economy Express against M&P’s 30 kg top box size. Both are private companies, both run cash on delivery for sellers, and both track on a consignment number.

Speed and service tiers

The two line up almost slot for slot at the top end. Both sell an overnight service for anything urgent and a cheaper second-day service for anything that can wait. M&P puts a number on the slower tier, 48 to 72 hours, which is more specific than most couriers publish. TCS puts its number on the faster tier instead, saying Overnight Express reaches 90% of destinations on its network the next day.

Same-day delivery is where they separate. M&P confirms same-day service inside Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. TCS says its Same Day Delivery runs in 11 main cities, with the Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad regions fully covered. If your urgent delivery is inside Faisalabad, Multan or Peshawar, TCS is the one worth asking first. Either way, ask the counter whether the specific destination area qualifies before paying, because same-day coverage is drawn by area, not by city boundary.

M&P’s published counter hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 5:30 pm. Cut-off times inside those hours decide whether a booking starts moving today, and a parcel handed in at 5 pm is not treated the same as one handed in at 11 am.

Weight limits and packaging

This is the clearest practical split between the two, and it is easy to check before you leave the house.

Light and medium parcels

Both offer fixed-size options that let you know the price before packing. M&P’s My Box comes in 5, 10, 20 and 30 kg on overnight delivery, and My Flyer covers documents and small sensitive items in three sizes. TCS RedBox runs 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 kg, and the Express Flyer is its sealed, tamper-evident document bag.

Heavy shipments

TCS Economy Express accepts any weight up to 999 kg, with anything over 30 kg in your own packing, and TCS also runs Overland Express for bulk cargo between cities. M&P’s published box range stops at 30 kg, so for a genuinely heavy consignment, ask M&P’s logistics side for a quote rather than assuming the courier counter can take it.

Temperature-controlled shipping

M&P lists a cool chain, temperature-controlled solution under its business solutions, which is the reason it comes up so often in conversations about pharmaceutical distribution. If you are moving medicines, vaccines, diagnostic samples or anything else with a storage temperature on the label, this is a real difference rather than a marketing line: an ordinary courier service has no way to hold a temperature range in transit.

TCS’s published service list covers warehousing and distribution on a cloud-based warehouse management system, but the pages we checked do not describe a cold chain product for walk-in or retail customers. If you need one from TCS, ask its corporate side directly rather than at an Express Centre counter.

For everyone else this section does not apply. A phone, a pair of shoes or a stack of documents does not need a cool chain, and paying for one is money wasted.

Which is cheaper, TCS or M&P?

Neither publishes a full rate card, so any page quoting a fixed price gap between them is guessing. Both offer a way to price your own shipment instead. TCS has a rate calculator on its website. M&P says rates appear on each service page and that a cost calculator generates an estimate from the service type and the weight or size category, with a tariff option built into the assistant on its site.

Price the same shipment on both, using the same origin, destination, weight and service tier, then compare the two figures. Two habits save more money than switching brands. Weigh the parcel before you pack, because crossing a weight slab boundary by 100 grams moves you into the next slab. And book the tier you actually need, since an overnight booking and a second-day booking on the same route are different products at different prices.

For a business account, the counter rate is only one of three numbers that matter. Ask both for the delivery charge, the COD service charge and the cost of a returned parcel, in writing, and compare all three together.

Tracking compared

Both work on a consignment number from the receipt, and neither lets you search by phone number or address.

TCS shipments track in the box on this site, on the TCS website, or through the helpline. The statuses are explained in the TCS status guide. An M&P CN will not work here, because this tool reads TCS consignment numbers only. M&P runs its own tracking, an Android customer app, and an assistant on its website that handles track and trace, complaints and tariff questions in several languages, including Urdu.

One detail worth knowing if you are chasing a parcel: an M&P tracking result displays the shipper, consignee, service type, pieces, weight, COD amount and who received it. TCS results carry a similar set of fields, described in what your TCS tracking result shows. The received-by name is the field that settles most delivery disputes with either company.

COD and online sellers

Both split cash on delivery into a small-seller product and a corporate one. M&P offers Retail COD and Corporate COD, with a COD portal for account holders and a quote form that asks for your city and monthly shipment count. TCS offers Retail-COD, which it says can be opened at any Express Centre with no subscription and no minimum shipment count, alongside its Envio portal for e-commerce accounts.

The decision rarely turns on the courier’s name. Pull your last hundred orders by city and check both networks against that list, because a courier that is strong where your customers are not is no use to you. Then get the settlement cycle in writing, since for a small shop the speed of the cash coming back usually matters more than a few rupees per parcel, and ask what a refused parcel costs on your main routes. Returns are the line item that quietly eats COD margins, and how the return leg works is set out in TCS return tracking.

Which to choose

  • Anything that must stay cold: M&P, through its cool chain service.
  • Same-day inside a city other than Karachi, Lahore or Islamabad: TCS, subject to area coverage.
  • A heavy consignment over 30 kg: TCS Economy Express or Overland Express.
  • Attestation, a visa dropbox or a utility bill alongside your parcel: TCS, which runs all three at its counters.
  • A corporate print and distribution run: M&P lists a dedicated service for it.
  • A document across town tomorrow: either. Choose by which counter is closer and still open.
  • An online order already in transit: the shop chose the courier. Track the CN you were given.

What we could not verify

M&P’s own published figures for annual volume do not agree with each other. Its courier website refers to more than 2 million shipments a year, while the parent group site refers to 12 million or more annual deliveries, and third-party pages quote higher numbers again. The figures may be counting different things across different years, so we have left volume out of the comparison table.

M&P’s group site also describes the company as Pakistan’s first FedEx Authorized Ship Center. We could not confirm that on FedEx’s own material, so treat it as M&P’s claim about itself rather than a checked fact.

Neither company publishes a route-level delivery guarantee that would let anyone declare one faster than the other nationwide. Where this page gives a timing, it is the company’s own published claim.

Frequently asked questions

Which is better, TCS or M&P?

TCS is the broader choice, with more counters, same-day service in more cities, much higher weight limits and extras such as attestation and visa handling. M&P is the better choice when you need temperature-controlled delivery or a corporate print and distribution service. For an ordinary parcel between major cities, either works.

What does M&P stand for?

Muller & Phipps. The courier arm trades as M&P Express Logistics and has been operating in Pakistan since 1986.

Is M&P cheaper than TCS?

Neither publishes a full rate card, so there is no reliable general answer. Price the same shipment through both, using the same origin, destination, weight and service, and compare the two figures.

Can I track an M&P parcel on this site?

No. This tool reads TCS consignment numbers only. Use M&P’s own tracking page or its Android app for an M&P CN.

Does M&P deliver on Sundays?

M&P says it offers a holiday delivery service for weekends and religious or festive holidays across Pakistan. Its normal counter hours are Monday to Saturday, 9 am to 5:30 pm, so confirm the holiday option at booking rather than assuming it applies.

Which courier is best for medicines in Pakistan?

For anything with a storage temperature on the label, use a courier with a cold chain service. M&P publishes a temperature-controlled solution for exactly this. Whichever you use, tell the counter what is inside, because medicines have handling rules an ordinary parcel does not.
